I've always wondered, why do we have 'Inbox' and 'Sent Items' instead of 'Inbox' and 'Outbox?'

To me Outbox suggests those items that haven't been sent yet.
In my emails there is an inbox and sent items,so I think that's the term we're all used to?

Yes, that's how I understood it too. The "outbox" is something that is waiting to be sent.

True enough but, similarly, an inbox contains items that haven't been read yet.
