Michael Tierney
« on: Saturday 23 April 16 20:45 BST (UK) »
Is there a way to find out which county Michael might have come from in Ireland.   I know he was born in Ireland in 1819.  But somewhere along the line he came to Canada, I do believe he married a lady Mary Cushing in Ireland. Mary was born September 7, 1823 in Ireland but where.   Again I don't know.  I can only follow him once he got to Canada.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A match on the surnames in the same townland, same civil parish seems the very best of irish luck in the start of a search, judge yourself in 1850 to Tonduff  townland, Abbeyleix civil parish, County Laois

i used for the quick search  Griffiths valuation section in http://www.failteromhat.com,  then for date and map references
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation

Cushing   James   Tonduff      Abbeyleix   Laois map ref 23 b
Cushing   Patrick   Tonduff      Abbeyleix   Laois map ref 25 b
Cushing   Bridget   Ballymaddock   Kilteale   Laois
the three Cushing were followed by 24  Tierney in just the county, of which two are

Tierney   Thomas   Tonduff   Abbeyleix   Laois  map ref 20 b
Tierney   James   Ballylehane Upper   Killabban   Laois

the homesteads ie house and garden can be made out on the accompanying maps. I noted the N77 road leaving NNE out of Abbeyleix village, splits into the N77 running due N and the Ballyloan Road running NE,  if you follow the N77  say for 100 yards northwards, you have crossed into Tonduff Townland  and you in Map ref 23

if church records exist they should be in Abbeyleix or the national library etc
good luck onwards

you also have bad luck, the previous national census substitute for  Abbeyleix Laois doesn’t appear to exist heres what the entry reads
Tithe Applotment Books
Parishes in Laois
Ballynakill
only apparently one parish exists, that’s sad.  however that is from http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp Dr jane lyons at appears to suggest more might exist but not for abbeyleix parish see http://www.from-ireland.net/county-laois-genealogy/

you need to exhaust http://www.rootsireland.ie
I would recommend a topic on a Laois message board eg
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general/mb.ashx
 but start here on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/laois-(queens)/
I checked to see if any Tierney lived in tonduff but sadly no, but there is family name locations elsewhere in abbeyleix

Maybe the Michael Tierney in my family history is linked?
Hiya all, looking for information on my great grandparents, Bartholomew Daly born around 1850 who married Mary Lawlor in 1882 in Limerick, I think. Also, John Bourke born around 1830 who married Kate Tierney, father was Michael, in 1868 in Lurriga R.C. Church, Co. Limerick. It's possible that John Bourke may have had the surname spelling of Burke.

Bartholomew Daly and Mary Lawlor had the following children: Margaret (Peggy) Daly b. Feb., 10th 1889, Bartholomew Daly b. 1891, Daniel Daly b. 1893, My Grandmother, Anne Daly, (Bourke) born in 1895 in Kilcolman, Co. Limerick, Timothy Daly b. 1896, Joseph Daly b. 1898 and Kathleen Daly b. 1900. Most birth years are approximate to within a year or so.

John Bourke and Kate Tierney had the following children: Mary Bourke b. Dec., 1868, Catherine Bourke b. July, 1870, Michael Bourke b. Sept., 25th 1872, Ellen Bourke b. July, 1875, Bridget (Biddy) Bourke b. Feb., 28th, 1878, John Bourke b. Nov., 29th, 1879, Elizabeth Bourke b. May 18th, 1882 and my Grandfather, Arthur Bourke born in Breska, Clarina, Co. Limerick on July 28th, 1885. My Grandparents, in bold italics above, are buried in Clounanna Cemetery, Patrickswell, Co. Limerick. I'm pretty sure all of the children of John & Kate were born in Breska, Clarina, Co. Limerick.

My Grandparents had the following children between 1921 and 1934, births given in date order: Catherine Bourke (My Mother), John Bourke, Anne Bourke, Michael Bourke, Mary Bourke, Arthur (Art) Bourke, William (Bill) Bourke and Ellen Bourke, all born in Curraghbridge, Adare, Co. Limerick. (Arthur (Art) and William (Bill) were identical twins and John, Michael and Mary died as infants the oldest being Michael aged 8 years.... so sad thinking of how my grandparents must have felt at their losses at the time, it must be dreadful to lose a child.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
