Marriage Search - Hugh McKay/Annie McLean
« on: Wednesday 27 April 16 18:31 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I am new here and I am a beginner-amateur family researcher.

The problem I am having is that I am trying to find a record of marriage between two individuals, Hugh McKay and Annie McLean.

All I know is that the son Martin McKay was born in Barrow-In-Furness in 1882 on 15 August. However, when I try to do a search on the parents, I hit a stumbling block.

Furthermore, I appreciate there may be a number of reasons why I may not be able to find such a record but when I try to find the parents in another form other than marriage, I find several possibilities.

Does anyone have any advice for me or be able to point me in the right direction please?

Many Thanks

Do you have Martin with his parents on any census?  Where and when were his parents born?

Scotlands People has one marriage between a Hugh McKay and a female McLean in 1875 but it does not match with a christian name of ann**

I am afraid that I am not too hot on how to work with censuses. I am unsure when his parents were born as I have got back as far as Hugh and Annie and then the trail goes cold.

I will take a look at this website because its possible that Ann McLean could've been known as Annie through choice.

Thank you for taking the time to take a look, it is much appreciated. I think this could well be the record I may require because its too much of a coincidence to be anything else.

No problem at all - funnily enough I have just been looking at the 1891 entry which is shown as Cumberland so I am going to ask the moderator to leave this post where it is.

Annie was a widow in 1891

To my knowledge, Martin was an only child of Annie and Hugh but its entirely possible there might be loose ends in the tree nobody in the family knew anything about.

Thank you for the help Kay, it is appreciated :)
