St Nicholas Hospital Great Yarmouth
« on: Wednesday 04 May 16 05:26 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help or advise me, i am trying to trace information on a lady who was in St Nicholas Hospital in and around 1960's when it was a psychiatric hospital. The lady reportedly committed suicide by drowning in the sea.
The family rumour is that she was buried in the grounds of St Nicholas Hospital Great Yarmouth??? Does anyone know if this was even possible?? and if so where might the burial records be?
I have tried to find her burial / cremation in all the council run cemeteries in Yarmouth, Gorleston, Lowestoft and Norwich but nothing??
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Jackie

Also a search for "St Nicholas Hospital" on NROCAT will show what Norfolk Record Office hold

There is a bit about patient records near the bottom of the first page, it looks like those for the 1960's have been destroyed.

That's just my luck, I am hoping I can find details of the burials they mention in the grounds? Somewhere?
Thank you once again

I worked there as a charge nurse in 1975.  There was a graveyard of sorts (more a burial site) which was just plain grass in the inner quadrangle, where sailors were purportedly buried but no headstones, just a patch at the far  left corner as you look out from the main entrance.  They may have buried patients who died there but not to my knowledge.
