DISLEY soldiers

Hi all

Can anybody check the WW1 service records for me please to see if either of these men are listed.

I believe they may be related to my family (The name is so rare)  I am hoping to start tracking them down.


JOHN HENRY DISLEY

Private 41057  North Staffordshire Regiment 9th bn.

Died 10/03/1918  aged 19

Son of Henry and Anna Disley, of 17, Glynn St., Wavertree, Liverpool.


THOMAS DISLEY

Private 64758  The King's (Liverpool Regiment) "D" Coy. 2nd Bn

Died 04/11/1918  aged 22

Son of William John and Ellen Emma Disley, of 33, Roscommon St., Liverpool

You will find John Henry's WW1 service record on Ancestry - short service attestation.  Born 1899 address 17 Glynn St, Liverpool.  He also had another Regimental Number as well as the one you give above = 4079 Regiment Name =TF Depot KLR TF

Born 23.10.1898 - aged 17yrs 11mths on attestation 4.10.1916

Private 41057  North Staffordshire Regiment 9th bn.

Appears to be The King's (Liverpool) Regiment, North Staffordshire (Prince of Wales's) Regiment

Thomas' medal record is on Ancestry (as is John Henry's).  Both are on the Register of Soldiers Effects on Ancestry.

As CaroleW says, of the two only John Henry's detailed service record has survived.

Not too rare that there aren't other Disleys in the Kings Liverpool though.

Carole's fingers are quicker.  I could not see any record for Thomas apart from his medal index card, for the British War Medal only, as he probably was in India for most of his war.

John H. attested on 4 Oct 1916 at the Technical School, Byrom Street but was not called up until 15 Feb 1917.  He was first with 212TF Depot, 26th KLR, then to Base Depot, BEF in France on 28 Dec 1917. Next day he was sent to 4th Bn, KLR but transferred to 9th Bn, North Staffs (Pioneers).  He died of wounds at 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station on 10 Mar 1918.  The papers include a brief description and a sad list of his personal effects, sent to his father, as would be his two medals later on.

Both appear on the CWGC site, John Henry buried in Lijssenthoek Military cemetery in Flanders and Thomas on the Delhi Memorial.
