Did Bertram and his family live in Christchurch?

Hello Muffin41

To answer your question above ... it does seem from all the records, newspaper articles etc, available, that Bertram JEFFERY did not actually reside in Christchurch at any time, but that his former wife Amy, and his three sons, did so.

Bertram is firstly found (after his arrival in Wellington, NZ -  November 1906), living with Amy at Otaki, a small community, which is roughly 73 kilometres from Wellington.

1911 - Wellington - Otaki Roll

JEFFERY - Amy - married
JEFFERY - Bertram Harry - photographer -- both at Aotaki Street, Otaki

Bertram also appeared on another Roll for Otaki in that same year :
1911 - Otaki Roll - Absent Voter Roll
# 77 - JEFFERY - Bertram Harry

[Possible he was working away from home at that time.? ]

The births of the New Zealand-born children of Amy and Bertram >

1908 - JEFFERY - George Melhuish

1910 - JEFFERY - Emily Mary

.... were both registered at Otaki.

By April 1912 when their daughter died, they were living at Horner Street (Newtown) Wellington.

Hmm ... by September 1916  > see Reply # 5 - Court report from Gisborne > it seems that wife Amy and children may be residing in Gisborne, and because he was sentenced to imprisonment in Wellington, that Bertram had returned to live there ?
[Note: Info from Electoral rolls should be treated with caution - for a variety of reasons it's not always accurate. ]

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

"Evening Post" (Wellington) - 21 December 1917 - Island Bay School
... this article is an end-of-year report for the school which lists some pupils.
Amongst them are the names - Harry JEFFERY / Robert JEFFERY / George JEFFERY (in that order) who might be the sons of Amy and Bertram ?  (A couple of others named JEFFERY seem not to be related ? )
[Hopefully, somebody here may be able to check Wellington school rolls to find ages and guardian of these children ?]
