Hi Pinefamily,  No Thomas was not Catholic, he was Christened Church of England in
Vernham Dean, Hampshire in 1811 arrived South Australia in 1840 on
"Charles Kerr" initially settled in Mt. Torrens, later Robe and Kingston.

In your post you mention district records, could you explain those please
and where I could access them?   Have contacted family history department
of S.A. State Library and various family history societies re this family without
                   much success.

Regards,
Jen.

The SAGHS, or Genealogy SA I think they are called now, hold the SA district records on microfiche.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

One other thing I might add. I wouldn't trust obituaries as reliable sources of information. The fact she was named the fifth daughter of... might not be correct.

I take your point re obituaries Pinefamily.  The reference to the fifth daughter was in
a newspaper wedding notice.  I acknowledge that since I do not know who placed this notice
in the newspaper it should be regarded with suspicion.  However, it is all part of the detective
work we call family history!  I have sent you a PM.
