Who are David Nicol's Parents?

Hello,

The text is " Catherine Sweeney, Hawker" so it is Catherine. There is a Cath Sweeny, b 1839, hawker of fruit, living at 4 Manse Lane, Greenock.

Can't find Agnes. Also looked at Greenock Workhouse.

Yes did see that one for Cath Sweeny did see a record that might have been Agnes down as an outdoor worker but can't find it now  ....A record comes up for a marriage in Ontario for a Wm Nicol September 1871 gives his occupation carpenter wrong place of birth Patrick father just listed as D Nichol mother M Nicol ...He marries  a Jane S   
Andrews ...widow her parents John &  E Smith ..will see if I can follow this up

Think the marriage for William could be the right one ..there is a birth for a Maggie Arthur Nicol 30/4/1872 York Ontario father William Smith ...carpenter ...mother Jane Smith ...Was William Nichol's mother not  Margaret  Arthur ?

There is a death for a Jane Nicol age 45 18/10/1885 ( married woman ) age 45

A marriage for a William Nicol widower age 48 b Lanarkshire about 1837 father David Nicol Mother Margaret he married  Jemmie A Collins b 1852 East Zorra father George Collins  mother Sarah Collins
This couple end up Seattle Kings Washington .....will post details later

Wow, Rosie, you have been busy. I tried SP for a death record for William, obviously with no success. His mother was Margaret Arthur. At the time of his marriage to Agnes McDonald in 1861, his father David was deceased, mother living.

Will have a look at the records for William in Seattle King's Washington.

Yes I could not see a death for him on S P yes have a look in Washington   ..If this is the same chap he has more of a family born in Canada you will find them on the 1881 census in Ontario ...along with the family of Jane Smith/Andrews ...

Hello Rosie,

Found William's death and gravestone. Jemima Collins lived to a ripe old age, 92 when she died in 1942.

Also found births for four children: Maggie 1872, Richard 1874, Andrew 1876 and Ellen 1879. Ellen was born at Elgin, where the family is on 1881 census.

This family story just keeps on growing.

Had a thought, Rosie! David's marriage cert gives the occupation of his father, William, as Ships Carpenter. Wonder if he went to sea or told the family he was going to sea and never returned. Off to start another life!
