HANNAH COOK and MARY HODGSON COOK
« on: Thursday 23 June 16 19:52 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to Hannah  b. abt. 1824, married to William Cook b. 1816 in Sheffield.  I do not have her maiden name, but she appears in the 1851 census.  In 1861 census, William is a widow and has a servant, Mary Hodgson.  William appears again in the 1881 census, and he and Mary are married.

William and Hannah had three children that I know of:  Mary b. 1842, Joseph b. 1845 and John b. 1846 - 1903.

I cannot find a marriage or death certificate for Hannah, nor have I found anything tying in with Mary Hodgson other than the census records.

I have seen family trees naming Mary as the mother of Mary, Joseph and John, but he was a widower by 1861 so those family trees are incorrect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You probably need to get the birth certificate of one of the children as that would show Hannah's maiden name.

I agree, but to date, I have been unsuccessful.  I'll keep trying though.  Thanks for responding.

Looking at the 1851 there is a daughter Elizabeth born 1839, so the marriage could have been before registration.

Hi

We really need to verify your research.

Elizabeth has been found. You had not found.

Please list the references where you have found the family in census.

Otherwise we are all attempting to duplicate your research from scratch = big waste of time/effort

Thanks
Ray

The 1851 is easy to find and clear, what is hard is to find a marriage, or the registration of any child's birth, or even a death registration for Hannah.

It's hardly rocket science searching what is online.

! would like to know what the OP found NOT what we can easily find.

What we find may be based on an erroneous starting point based upon previous (erroneous?) research.

A possible birth for Joseph?

Births Mar 1845

Cooke    Joseph        Sheffield    22   657

There are also a couple of Mary Ann Cooke in Sheffield 1842 ( she's down as Mary A in 1851)

My omission - I did have Elizabeth and did not include her in the list of children.
I obtained all of my census records etc. from Ancestry.
