Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment
« on: Sunday 26 June 16 15:38 BST (UK) »
I am tracing families who had people in their family serving with the Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment, RAF Helensburgh, during WW11 for a future publication. MAEE tested flying boats and conducted anti submarine warfare trials.  Personnel included RAF WAAFs and civilians, both men and women.

My uncle served in the RAF  in Scotland and Northern Ireland  during WW2.   Unfortunately he is not with us any more,  so I cannot ask him.

His name was Basil Bennett.   He was based at Inverness at one point.   He was involved with Radar, I believe.. Just wonder  if he may have been involved at  MAEE?

\RAF Inverness was on the other side of Scotland to Helensburgh and dealt with communications and wing calibration flights which is where radar came in. While MAEE at RAF Helensburgh also carried out trials involving radar the No 70 Signal Wing Calibration Flight  at Inverness was totally separate and Basil probably served with this unit.     robin
