Mr William Pallett, the landlord of the Royal Hotel, Bendigo, was found dead in the city
baths on Sunday morning. The deceased was a native of Bendigo and 36 years of age. He was a Freemason and a member of the All Saints' choir for many years, and was prominent in musical circles.
An inquiry was held, at which evidence was given that the deceased went to the city
baths for a warm bath. The caretaker noticing that the water was flowing out under the
door opened the door and found Mr Pallett dead in the bath. The medical evidence was
to the effect that the deceased was drowned, probably having been overtaken by an apoplectic fit.
William had no real estate in his deceased estate

On Saturday morning Mrs Pallett's Royal Hotel, in Bendigo, was entered by a thief, who
stole £7 from one of the drawers. The house keeper, Mrs Matthews, was awakened by a
noise, and saw a man in the act of taking her watch from the dressing-table. She at once
jumped out of bed and followed the burglar, who, however, escaped.
