There is a George bapt in same church also to Michael Prendergast and Maria Rafferty, but on 25 April 1871 ( b 10 April 1871) before the couple married ???

21 October 1879 St Alban Liverpool  Mary Rafferty age 30 spinster father John Rafferty (labourer ) married Michael Prendergast age 32( labourer ) his father Michael Prendergast (porter) address for both 24,Maddox Street ..witnesses Henry Chapman and Isabella Henshaw

Oh this is amazing! LizzieL I think you've cracked it - George was born before they married and Mary was put down on that record as Maria!

I have a GOOD FEELING about this one - things are starting to line up. Still no idea where Mary Shaw comes from but it's possible that it was maybe Mary Rafferty's mother's maiden name? (Or a figment of my granda's imagination).

They are Catholic baptisms so the priest has latinised the Christian names. George was actually written as Georgius

Rosie are you able to find a 1848 June Quarter marriage for a Michael Prendergast. To a Wall, O'brien, Little or Curran, Liverpool also.

I was also thinking that 1915 was a late marriage for JJ. I have found a marriage of a John Joseph Prendergast in 1901 to Elizabeth Ann Haslam, registered Manchester.
