Manor of Catwick, nr Leven any info please? (once owned by Richard Hood)

Thank you very much for all the replies.

I have got bits and pieces from newspapers about Hoods at various Yorkshire places and just looking for a few more details re Hood of Catwick / Leven. I agree, seems little to link to my George Hood.

Re John Dickinson signing the 1815 Selby Marriage Register, I seem to recall he was either:- signing others, or worked at the Registry Office.

But Jane Cockin is of interest and I have started collecting notes re the surname (Cockin's at Doncaster; Fishlake; Huddersfield; Holmfirth; Halifax; Landholme, Par. of Eastrington; Cowick (but later); Clementhorpe and Staddlethorpe, Par. of Blacktoft and Fockerby). Only one Jane Cockin, who would likely be too old by 1815 - doubtful), but this Hood information will do for the moment, thank you.

Apart from Deed Registrations, Census & BMD Registers, it is difficult to find much documentation for Catwick, Yorkshire.

Purchased this Certificate dated 1885 Redemption of Land-Tax., issued by Somerset House to property owner William Cook Esq.

I would be interested in any old (18th Century) Hood - Cook connection (if any) at Catwick too?

Last Will and Testament of me Richard Hood of Catwick in the County of York Farmer made and published this nineteenth day of September 1807 ... my son Richard Hood of Stamford Bridge Grocer and unto my daughter Hannah Quadell [sic as copied] of the same place the sum of £100 a piece ... unto my son William Hood of Catwick aforesaid Farmer whom I did appoint the Executor of this my Last Will and Testament ...

Thank you, this Richard Hurd is the very same Richard Hood.

Although I was after the witness spell check, your snippet view has answered an earlier thought:-

a) regarding Stamford Bridge being in the Parish of Catton and

b) looking in my notebook earlier I noticed the spelling variants of Hood amongst Borthwick records, up to late 18th Century.

Hood; Hudd; Hodd; Hode; Hord; Hurd and Hird possibly arising from pronunciation differences.
