Odd birth registrations
« on: Sunday 17 July 16 19:51 BST (UK) »
Herbert Pottage married Bertha Rebecca Kynman in Q4 1922 Sculcoates RD. To find their children I searched on Pottage mmn Kynman, and found 5, two being in 1923. But the first, Marjory was registered in Q1 and the second Herbert William in Q2. It looks like Marjory died in the same quarter.
How did they have two children registered in adjacent quarters? I have Herbert W's death as 1944 Hull but can't find him in 1939 to confirm dob
Any ideas?

You really need to get their birth certificates.

However, I would guess that they were twins and born very near the end of March. Marjory died and as her death had to be registered before a burial, they registered her birth and death on the same day. Perhaps they then waited to see if Herbert was going to live before registering him - they had 6 weeks to do that, and so his registration fell in the next quarter. There is no way they could have been separate births.

Birth   21st  February 1923 at Hull, Yorks

So his birth was registered late if it was the June quarter.

With a birth date of 21st February the birth could have been registered as late as the 4th April (the June 1/4)

I agree with the above explanations of registration at different times because one died etc, HOWEVER, twins can be born a long time apart, as I suddenly remembered  some separations, so did a google search.
I am not suggesting this is the reason, because I found the birth date for the later registered baby, but just for information:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/real-life-stories/miracle-twins-born-record-87-1857782
And the article also gives an example of twins born in different years.

If you want to look for Herbert Snr. in 1939 try surname search POTTOGE

Thank you all, it looks as if registering Herbert W at the latest possible date must be the explanation. I had his father and mother on the 1939 register plus one redacted child (probably son born 1924), Iris b 1932, died in 1936.
