Ah well there goes that theory. I should have looked for his death.

Mmm ... 1936 death registration shows Gladys Alfreda SAMWAYS - aged 24 ... so born circa 1912.

The NZ birth registration > 1909 is for a Gladys WADE > and seems to be a different person ... but coincidentally happens to also have a father named "Thomas".

Hi spades ... I think we can now rule out the "Gladys WADE" whose birth was registered in 1909.  ;)

It seems that she married some 8 or so years after "Gladys Alfreda WADE".

I believe the following is her death registration.

1999 - McDOWELL - Glad* -- d.o.b.  23 November 1908
[*  Indexed as "Glad" ... rather than "Gladys" ]

NZ Birth

1909 - WADE - Gladys
Parents:  Jessie French and Thomas Edward Norman WADE
... this birth registered 1st quarter 1909 at Auckland.
Date of birth (as deduced from online NZ Birth index ) is ... 23 November 1908.

[Percy Alexander McDOWELL (husband of Gladys WADE) died 1984 ]

Hi, my grandfather was Thomas Waterford Wade and his parents were Thomas Wade (died 1909 drowned in Waipa River and buried with his mother Harriett Wade) and Lucy Gibb (buried in Hautapu from what I believe).  My grandfather did believe that he had a sister but we have never found out who.  So what happened I think - is that when Thomas drowned in 1909 - Lucy may have been pregnant.  She then dropped my grandfather off at her brothers Robert Gibb in Ngaruawahia where my grandfather grew up.  She may have then had the baby and given him/her to a family member.  Can't really understand all of this.  I will attach a photo of my grandfather and Lucy for.  She then went on to marry Daniel Coe and they then had a son Harold (Harry) Coe.  So that birth certificate you have is more than likely correct but you would have to try and find the Gibb family side to see if they know anything.  My grandfather was not adopted by Robert Gibb so maybe this is why there was no actual adoption.  Hope this helps - keep in touch as I would love to know more.
