Margaret Olive Butters
« on: Tuesday 19 July 16 15:48 BST (UK) »
I found the above person on the 1939 register, but have been unable to find any trace of her after this. The record says Margaret O Butress, and above the surname it has the word Langley-don't know what this means! Father Arthur, mother Olive living at Niton Cottage, Edward Road, Newmarket, Suffolk. Any help much appreciated. The family surname should really be Butters.
regards.

No birthyear shown in post and freebmd does not have a Margaret O Butters birth.  Could Langley be her maiden name/married name

Did you not check freebmd?  1918 birth for Margaret O Buttress and marriage in 1941 to Langley

1912 marriage for parents - Buttress

Thanks for the info. As the register was taken in 1939, and she was single and at home, then the register must have been updated in 1941 to include her married name as this appears to be when she married. I did not know they changed records after 1939, so this is something to watch out for I guess.

Sorry - but how can you say the surname should be Butters when it is clearly Buttress on all records?

Are you sure you have the right family?

Yes I definitely have the correct family. The surname has been spelt many different ways over the years.

The 1939 register was used by the NHS and updated until 1991

That is useful to know thanks. By the way where did you get the death record for 1986 when FreeBMD only goes up to 1983?
