STRACHAN and MCCARON
« on: Tuesday 26 July 16 23:39 BST (UK) »
I'm having a bit of a night mare locating my great grandfathers first wife.

She was Catherine McCaron married John Strachan Mar 25 1904 Hamilton Lanarkshire.

She died in Kirklands Asylum Bothwell Mar 27 1910 Paralysis of the Insane - Her death cert lists her father as Bernard McCaron and there's no mother listed.

I've looked at each year of the census available but cant find any record of her prior to the wedding - No birth cert , nothing

Can anyone help or at least point me in a direction.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hi Paul ,

Quote
Her death cert lists her father as Bernard McCaron and there's no mother listed.

Does the 1904 marriage cert. give any info. on Catherine's parents ?
What age was given for Catherine on the marriage/death certificate ?

From the death index it gives her birth as c1880.

Would the records of the Asylum give anymore information ?

The name of her father sounds Irish - could Catherine have been born in Ireland perhaps?

Hi Paul

As Ev mentioned above, what showed on the 1904 marriage cert for Catherine in respect of her age and parents' names?

I know you mentioned no mother's name on her death cert in 1910, but also no mother's name on her 1904 marriage? Pain if so  :-\

What was father Bernard's occupation given on her certs?

Thankfully, the marriage in 1904 does show Catherine's parents. Writing faint, but mother I think is Catherine Gillespie. Father Bernard's occupation maybe Basket Maker (Master)?! What did it say on the death cert for him?

Did Bernard show as deceased in 1910 cert? Wondering if at the bottom of the marriage entry it says 'Both deceased'. Hard to read clearly.
