What am I doing wrong?
« on: Tuesday 02 August 16 09:41 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find on Scottish People site the death of the following women.

Pear More Smieton died 25 Sept 1966 Drumduan, Forres

I know it must be there,  I just can't fine it  ??? If I put in surname variants 1 come up, but as soon as I put in Pearl it says no match  ???
Can any one help me please?

It may be too recent. I always go to Edinburgh or Glasgow to search and at their centres there you can see all registrations to date. However, from home, more recent certificates are not available (I'm not sure of the cut off dates. The SP site probably tells you).

Have you tried Moray Council's free Libindx site? You may find some details by doing a person search there.

Nearly gave up, saw why you were struggling.  Last try I put Pearl - Forres - 1966 into SP and it came up:

1966 Name More-Shieton, Pearl, F, 73, Forres Moray.

I think it may have been the hyphen that was throwing us off.

But her name is Pearl  More (is her middle name) Smieton surname!

It is not part of her surname.  ;D More was her Grandmother Christain  name

Thanks everyone

Have a look at the certificate when it comes online some time this year, presumably 25th Sept.  It may be that she hyphenated her middle name and surname herself, wouldn't be unusual.  See if you can find an electoral roll or phone book for the 1950s-60s to see if that is the case.
