Victor Brown
« on: Saturday 06 August 16 07:17 BST (UK) »
From about 1946 till 1972 the Brown family lived in Impington
Victor, Amelia, Maurice, Avis, Pamela and Reginald.

I have found (online) all in EASTBOURNE

1923 Victor Brown married Violett M Pratt
3 children, Maurice B 1925, Pamela D 1927 and Avis P 1932

1935 Violett Brown died

1936 Victor Brown married Amelia J K Benfield
one child Reginald V 1938

1917 the birth of Amelia J K Benfield

1905 the birth of Violett Mabel Pratt

BUT .. no sign of Victor Brown

There is a record for Cambridge of his death  1899 - 1981 , which sounds plausible.

Can anyone see the birth of Victor?

Bob

Would this be Impington, Cambridgeshire?

If so how about this one?

Births Sep 1899

Brown    Victor         Cambridge    3b   475

Have you checked him out on the 1939 register in Eastbourne?

Thank you for replying. Yes, it is Impington Cambs.
I looked at the 1939 census, 32 Wartling Rd, Eastbourne. Just Victor's name, the others were blacked out, and unfortunately the '39 census doesn't give birth place. Couldn't make out his occupation
I agree that the Cambridge birth would be the most obvious choice, but still not certain.
I tried to contact the Sussex Records Office to see if maybe the marriage record indicated his birth place but they couldn't help.

If nothing else turns up I will have to settle for the Cambridge birth.

Thanks again for looking

Bob

Marriage records won't include a birthplace ::)

But the Marriage Certificate will contain his father's name.
And from that, maybe you/we can find him on the 1901 or 1911 censuses?
Cost is £9.25 from GRO.

We must be careful about naming the children of Victor?
RootsChat has a policy of not naming living, or potentially living, people.

This is what info you will get from a marriage cert....
 http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/marriages.htm

It should of course show his father's name (unless you already know that,in which case the 1911 census would be easy enough to check out if he's the right chap)

I saw that family(and later too!) and wondered if it could be the right one,as there was a Reginald back then ,which seems to be a name that came down to the next generation.

A Cambridge registered birth does cover the village of Impington in 1899.
