Wow, thank you all so much. I'm trying to jot down all this info and thinking about what I can add. Cecelia states her mother Isabella was Welsh which confirms its the right family as there are too many other facts for it not to be. The ages on the ship were a bit out but I don't know why. I can see Harry de groodt is in someone's tree on Ancestry but I only have FindMyPast. One of my reasons for looking at this part of the family is going back to Isabella. I believe she was the daughter of Ann nee Williams and William Jones. In 1871 census Isabella Jones is with her mother by this time Ann Daniels and family. One of which is ( I think my Grt grandfather John Jones) my theory is his first sister Isabella died or was dying at the time of the 1851 census so John was staying with his grandmother Mary Williams in Caerleon. I then think they named another daughter Isabella who is in all the future censuses. Linking this family to John born Llangibby in 1849 has been my brick wall for years now. Sorry for rambling on but your help is so very much appreciated coming forwards or going back. Thankyou once again, Phil.

This should help confirm and tie things together.

Can't post an attachment in the Lookup Request forum.

Thank you so much for this. How sad for the children losing their mum and dad in the space of 5 years. I googled the iron mill mentioned in the obituary and wondered if they went to America looking for a new and better life. It certainly looks as though they didn't find it! I'm glad that John Jones was mentioned as I'm convinced I'm on the right track. It looks like the children and their children all passed away without leaving a generation that would be alive today. Did William snr marry I wonder? The wording in the obituary is so moving! Such hard times, such sad times, thank you again, Phil?

There are generations that are alive today. They are through Mary Ann's son Harry C. DeGroodt born in 1903.

In the 1930 census I posted Harry is listed as nephew and married. The Reba listed below him as niece is his wife and the Harriet listed is thier daughter.

1930 Census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XHDD-Q7F

Harry's age got messed up in the 1940 census. It should read age "37" not "87". He has 3 children.

============

According to Harry C's obit in 1959 these were their only children.

The son Forrest (Forrest Sherman DeGroodt)  joined the Navy and was killed when he and 4 other of his ship mates were involved in a car accident in Rhode Island. The car they were riding in crashed against a utility pole according to the newspaper article about the accident. He was the only one who died.

=====

The daughter Harriet married George J. Frommelt. She died in 2010.

The other daughter is still alive.

Her husband John George Shina died in 2015.

Well I don't really know what to say. Gob smacked by the amount of information you have found for me about this family. Where you start in finding it all I don't know but I'm ever so grateful. I thought I'd reached the end of the line with all my research but you have rekindled my desire to find out more if it exists. Thank you, Phil.

Will add the obit/articles I mentioned in the other thread in the US Forum so you have the news clippings for your records.
