Joseph GARDNER of Solihull married 1794

Hi Folks,

Joseph GARDNER married Elizabeth CRISP at St. Martin's, Birmingham on 18th March 1794.  He was described as a Widower.  They were both able to sign their names well, suggesting a good education and at a certain level in society.  He and Elizabeth have 3 children.  The eldest, Mary, married Benjamin HANDS and settled in Kings Norton, after 1821.  Whether the family had moved or Mary only went to the area is unknown.

I am looking for details of Joseph's first marriage and the death of his first wife.

I think the marriage could be at St Martins Birmingham 1782

Joseph GARDINER to ELizabeth Fisher on 15th October 1782.

I have looked at both signatures and they do look quite similar.
Both signed register
Witnesses: one looks like he  may be a church official

EDIT: the witnesses were SAMUEL BROOKE - he witnessed at his second marriage and the other Charles Primer

Thank you. I think you are correct about the hand-writing.  Sam BROOKE, again I agree.

I've put in an amendment, on Ancestry, as the transcription for the actual register was the 14th.
