Court records for 1827 please?
« on: Wednesday 14 September 16 16:36 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I have a convict, William Pacey, tried in Nottingham Town Assizes  on 25 May 1827, for larceny. He was subsequently transported to Sydney, NSW in 1828, on board the Countess of Harcourt. (Not to be confused with a convict of the same name, also from Nottingham, who was transported on the Adamant. a few years earlier.)

He also had a couple of prior convictions for larceny  in 1825 and 1826.
I was wondering if there are court records available as I would like to know what he had stolen.

Thank you,
Marie in Sydney.

A lad called William Pacey, "not above 14 years", was convicted in 1819 of stealing potatoes in Sneinton.

Thank you Forte, Trevor and Anne for researching William Pacey for me.
I don't think the one in 1819 is him as he would have only been 7-10 (born 1809-1812) and the same for the 1820 one. These are possibly William Pacey transported in 1821 per Andromeda.

I'm pretty sure the 1825  and 26 ones are him and the 1827 one definitely is.

Would there have been a market for stolen handkerchiefs? Were they silk I wonder. I wish I knew what else he had stolen.

His father's name is given on his DC in 1850 as Samuel Pacey. The only birth I could find is to Samuel P and Elizabeth Loach, but this is 1797, too early for our William. If someone has access to early parish registers I would appreciate a look-up thank you.

Thank you for this information. It is much appreciated.
I found a William born to Samuel and Elizabeth Loach but it was in 1797.

I could not find any other parents of this name having children so I wonder if the first William died and they named another baby William in 1811.

I was hoping you might have the ability o do a search for all children born to S and E between 1796 and 1811. Is that possible please?
Many thanks,
Marie
