Saw the post. I suspect my ancestor James is an illegitimate child of Lewis Dow, but ran into a brick wall years ago. Been a bit quiet on genealogy hobby. At sometime I would be interested if any DNA testing of descendants would help shed light on this - but have to look into research first.

Good morning from Canada,
My grandmother was;
Catherine May Dow m. to Thomas Cuthbert Blease and they lived in Johnshaven.
Her father was George Dow Jr. b1858 m. to May Beattie,
His father was George Dow m. to Mary Smith ,
His father was John Dow m. to Elspet Barclay.

Unfortuneately , that is all the info I have on the Dow's so if anybody sees something familiar I would love to hear from you.

Many thanks,
Gord

Hi, I have an Alexander Dow born 17 August 1826 that emigrated to the US in 1886. He is Lewis Dow's Nephew. Lewis Dow's brother Robert Dow is his father and Ann Dawson is his mother.  Is this the right Alexander?
