It looks like the apprentice blocks at RAF Halton. The picture is taken from the Chiltern Hills behind the camp.

There is a main road separating the domestic site and the working site. The apprentices taught there were aircraft apprentices. The band could be an apprentice band and even though it's not in Scotland there was a pipe band still in existence in the late 1960s . I did my trade training at Halton but we weren't allowed up to the apprentice area which was up higher than the rest of the camp.

My husband an electronics apprentice was at RAF Locking but did travel to Halton and said it was the blocks at Halton as soon as he saw the 1st 2 pictures. :)

Snap Medpat my husband said exactly the same as yours as soon as he saw the pictures.

He spent 3 days there in 1956 for interview prior to starting his training at Hereford as an Admin Apprentice. It was No 1 School of Technical Training and he thinks it still is.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, everybody!!

Yes, it's definitely Halton. I just checked on googlemaps and saw the exact arrangement of buildings. And of course, if I'd remembered the apprentices' nickname correctly (Trenchard's Brats rather than Trenchard's Pups) I might have got there earlier. This would indicate that the photos were taken in around 1935-7 rather than during WW2.

Thanks especially to Imber and Medpat.

Nanny Jan, I have applied for his records but haven't received them yet.

Now I label and date the photos correctly. I wonder if the base would like copies. No harm in offering.
