WILLIAM (JOHN) MONTGOMERY

Trying to find information on my gt grandfather; WILLIAM (AKA JOHN) MONTGOMERY. Supposedly born in Armagh abt 1835; supposedly married my gt grandmother JANE CARTER in Liverpool in 1864. Sailed to Australia 1865/66 on the vessel 'SULTANA'; Jane had an illegitimate son GEORGE ERNEST CARTER born 1862 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. On the shipping record, William is listed as a navvy. I know nothing about either William or Jane prior to their arrival in Australia. There is no marriage record in the Liverpool BDM - I do have the baptism record for George Ernest Carter. Any hints on how I can find information on them would be so helpful..HELP.
