Marriage entry says William James Hook - Accountant.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi - yes he is indeed the Thomas Hook who married Eliza Leone Brice (my Grt Grt Gma) - on the marriage cert he puts his father as William James Hook, Accoutant.  Whether he was indeed an accountant is not known, as we all know that you can put what you like on certs!

Eliza died in 1934 in East Molesey, Surrey and Thomas went on to marry again to a Lilian Maud Giles, rather quickly in 1935.  Thomas died in 1942 in East Molesey, Surrey.  They are all buried in the local church yard.

Re knowing his precise date of birth - I always heard he was born in 1862 but when I looked at the 1939 Register it said 1861 - and that's also where I got 6 April from!

1861 census date was 7 April, so he would only have been about a day old (and almost certainly unnamed).

Has he been found in 1871?

Except 1871 when he is aged 9, born Ipswich - and by that time an orphan, in Clapton.  Very sad  :'(  But he appears to have made good  :)

The only 1871 census that might remotely be him that I found was the one for Hackney St John, London where he is a 'scholar' at the London Orphan Asylum.  Year of birth is 1862 for this Thomas and place of birth is Ipswich, so I've never been too sure about this census entry.  Have never been able to find a likely one for him in 1861 either as you are right - he would have been a day old.
