Could you possibly post an image of the whole certificate?
I think this would contravene copyright.

I agree mostly with cristeen but see 2 St Brn Place but can't see anything to correspond in my Edinburgh street map index.

I was swithering betetween Gt and St before, josey.  Can't see it in any of the listings.  I wonder if the OP can tell us the parish.

It looks more like a list of burials than a death certificate to me.

No, Gadget, I can't find clues to either option...but I'm more convinced of 'Gt' now.

I'm still seeing 28 Bs'n place, abbreviation, and I can't see gardener as the occupation word.
Will have to leave it tonight, thank you one and all.

I think it is St rather Gr., with a clear full stop (St.)There is a mention of George Street below and the G is quite clear on that and different to what we have.

I though it might be a B start letter after St.  There is a St Bernard Place as a possible. From the 1839-40 Post Office Directory for Edinburgh www.archive.org/stream/postofficeannual183940edin#page/204/mode/2up

4H could you maybe add the name of the person who died? Sometimes other info comes up in different ways....

Regarding the St Bernard suggestion, there is a St Bernards Row and Crescent and a landmark St Bernards Well, all in the area just south of the Royal Botanic Gardens, hence my suggestion.
