Reminder to clean your scanner glass sufrace
« on: Wednesday 12 October 16 07:31 BST (UK) »
I noticed that a lot of scanned photos have dust spots on them which make restoration procedures difficult and effect the output quality ..it is highly recommended to flow these steps recommended By epson company for best output result from your scanner

Cleaning the Scanner

To keep your scanner operating at its best, you should clean it periodically, as described below.

   Unplug the power cord.

Clean the outer case with a cloth dampened with mild detergent and water.

If the glass of the document table gets dirty, clean it with a soft dry cloth. If the glass is stained with grease or some other hard-to-remove material, use a small amount of glass cleaner and a soft cloth to remove it. Wipe off all remaining liquid.

Be sure that there is no dust on the glass of the document table. Dust can cause white spots in your scanned image.

   Note:

Wipe the inside of the document cover and the scanner's document table before scanning transparencies.

Wipe the white parts of the 120/220 (6 x 9cm) size transparency holder to clean them if they get dirty.

   Caution:

Do not press the glass of the document table with too much force.

Be careful not to scratch or damage the glass of the document table, and do not use a hard or abrasive brush to clean it. A damaged glass surface can decrease the scanning quality.

Never use alcohol, thinner, or corrosive solvent to clean the scanner. These chemicals can damage the scanner components as well as the case.

Be careful not to spill liquid into the scanner mechanism or electronic components. This could permanently damage the mechanism and circuitry.

Do not spray lubricants inside the scanner.

    Never open the scanner case.

Good points raised Loord...I would also add the need to brush the photo with a small brush over the surface to remove dust particles which cling to stored photos over time. Perhaps these points could be added to the sticky topic on how to scan photos.

Some great advice Loord, scanners always need cleaning on every session.

I will add to the sticky topic a bit later on :) Sarah

Thank you for that Loord. It seems so obvious now that I read it, but I've never thought to clean the scanner glass surface before  :P

Yes it is good advice.

I downloaded a pic a few days ago which had so much dust speckles, I thought it was my laptop screen, so cleaned it only to realise it was the photo, not my laptop  ::)

Never thought to clean the scanner or to brush the dust off the photo before scanning.  I will do now.

Great advice guys.
