From Aug-Sept 1817, the 48th regiment arrived in Australia from Ireland.  They departed in 1824 for India.

The definitive book on that time in New South Wales (and Tasmania) is the late Clem Sargent's look : The Colonial Garrison 1817-1824. The 48th Foot. The Northhamptonshire Regiment in the Colony of New South Wales

There's several appendices in this well researched book, including one section that lists the War Office references for pay lists, musters etc.    There is also a section on their earlier involvement on the Iberian Peninsula.    :)

The NSW State Library (Macquarie St, Sydney NSW) is one of many Public Libraries with copies of the Australian Joint Copy Project.  (Kew also has the AJCP films).

Thanks, I'll see if I can track it down.  My man left the army in 1814 but the earlier material should be of interest.

I've also notice on the BDA link that in 1814 the daily rate for a Private was 6d per day, which makes the 9d per day pension for Private TAYLOR interesting.  I wonder whether this was the original pension set in 1814 when he was discharged, or an "indexed" 1852 figure?
