Derbyshire Registrars Indexes - FindMyPast
« on: Friday 21 October 16 19:17 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know how accurate/complete they are? what's the coverage like?

I've found loads of births, marriages and deaths  in the GRO indexes for specifically the Derby registration district from the 1860's to the 1930's but can't find a single match.

Hi

Have you tried searching https://www.freebmd.org.uk/search

Are you certain the birth was actually in Derby?

I've found the official GRO entries (using freebmd or FindMyPast or familysearch) with Derby as the reg district but no matches in the registrars index.

This is births, marriages and death but no matches for any of them.

The names are not unusual so highly unlikely to be mis-transcribed and for the marriages its both parties missing not one or the other.

Am I really that unlucky?

I've also got some GRO verified Derbyshire events that don't appear in the FindMyPast records. I think the coverage is still very small. For instance when you are searching the Derbyshire Burials there are only 53,000 records available to search. For the Derbyshire Baptisms there are only 230,000 records and the Derbyshire Workhouse Reports only cover a short period from June to December 1842.

Hopefully they will just keep adding records to the collections.

Hello .....  :)

I am sure FindMyPast used to have a coverage list but there doesn't appear to be one on the site now.

GenesReunited have a list but I don't know how up to date this is, for instance: on FindMyPast there are 7,948 marriages listed as being recorded in Mansfield Registration District which don't appear on the  Genes list (Derbyshire Registrars Marriages also cover Mansfield Register office and Registrars attended, chapels etc).

Derbyshire Registrars Marriage Index (Source: GenesReunited)
List = http://www.rootschat.com/links/01iq6/

Information about Derbyshire Registrars Birth Index (Source: GenesReunited)
These records comprise information for 218,850 births registered in eighteen locations between 1837 and 1911.

Information about Derbyshire Registrars Death Index (Source: GenesReunited)
These records transcribed by Derbyshire Family History Society, contain reference information for 252,544 people whose deaths were registered in 23 locations between 1837 and 1949.The information comes from death registers held by Derbyshire Registrars.

Hi Both

Thanks for posting.

As there are official GRO entries with the correct name spelling and definitley in Derby district, then the entries on the Derby Registrars Index transcribed by the FHS are either missing, not yet transcribed or mis-transcribed.

But using the 'other entries on the page' facility at freebmd, the other entries for births and deaths are also missing.

So still a work in progress, but whether it will be updated in the fullness of time remains to be seen.
