Patrick Loughrey from Scotland via Derry to Halifax
« on: Friday 28 October 16 19:17 BST (UK) »
GG Uncle Patrick Loughrey was born in 1892 in Hutchestontown near Glasgow, brought up in Ballydullaghan, Count Derry Northern Ireland and emigrated to Canada via Halifax in 1922. Believe he worked on a farm for the rest of his life possibly in Alberta but know he was heading west. No info from him or whether he had a family etc. Wondered if anyone knew of him?

Can’t help with Patrick’s life in Canada but this looks to be him, together with Scottish born sister Maggie, in the 1901 census in Ireland:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Grove/Ballydullaghan/1521494/

And in 1911:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/The_Grove/Ballydullaghan/592533/

Note that Patrick’s parents married 23 years previously and had 6 children all of whom were still alive in 1911.

This looks to be Annie’s father in 1901:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Swatragh/Tirhugh/1545668/

Nancy McCabe married Alexander Loughrey 10.5.1888, registered in Ballymoney.

Probate abstract from the PRONI wills site:

Loughrey, James of Ballydullaghan Garvagh county Londonderry retired farmer died 7 November 1966 at Tamneyrankin Swatragh county Londonderry Probate Belfast 19 June to Robert Patrick Neely coachbuilder. Effects £2003.

Arrived Halifax 12 April 1926 aboard the REGINA.  Going to Department of Colonization, Winnipeg.
Age is out by about 7 years, but other points fit, birth in Scotland & father A. LOUGHREY, Ballydullaghan Ireland.

Thank you all, checked my records and I was incorrect, he left Belfast on 3rd April 1926 bound for Halifax. His date of birth would probably have been 1899 so that accounts for the 7 years as he was 27 when he emigrated. His parents were James Alexander Loughrey and Nancy McCabe as you say (my Great Grandparents). He seems to have arrived in Canada and we have no trace of him since then. How would I find out if he ever reached Winnipeg? The manifest advises that he was a farmer and our family believe he found work with a family and never returned.

From An***Ry  Patrick's birthdate is June 1,1891 born Hutchesontown, Lanark
Scotland
Father Alexander Loughrey ,mother Annie  McCabe

Not finding a passenger record for 1926.

As we are not finding a Canadian record for Patrick it could be that he went to the U S.
I ran across a 1920 and 1930  U S census record  that might be your Patrick.

This was the Canadian Passenger List Lilybell - Patrick's age was slightly off - born 1899 - belfast to Halifax Nova Scotia. (on ancestry)

Confirmed Patrick's birth on ScotlandsPeople, same info as given by others except the surname reqired in the Search function is LOUGARY and the surname on the actual birth registry is LOUGHARY.  The birth cert shows the parents Alexander LOUGHARY married Annie McCABE 10 Mar 1888 Coleraine County Derry.
