Mitchell Patison S.S.C burial / grave inscripton

Hoping someone may be able to locate a tombstone or info relating to Mitchell Patison who was buried at St Cuthberts, name may be, Mitchell Pattison, S.S.C, died 1847 January 9.

Some background information I already have that may assist or help others;

Mitchell Patison  Born 11/12/1796  Edinburgh  S/O John Patison and Maisy Brown,

Married 1. Mary Bryce on Aug 1. 1920, Only issue known John Mitchell Patison Born C1830 - died 1876, Mary died Dec 9 1835. (Marriage Mitchell Pattison to Mary Bryce, with banns called in Edinburgh and St Cuthberts parishes on 21 Jul 1820 and 1 Aug 1820, respectively.)

Married 2.    Helen Wilson  Born 1807 (Bunkle & Preston, Berwickshire) D/O George Wilson and Helen Mitchell Berkshire (Berwickshire?)  Scotland.  Marriage for them occurred on 1 Jun 1837 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh.  Helen died Victoria c 1857, Children Helen, George, David and Mary.

1.    Helen Born C1838  Dalkeith   Died 11-6-1855 aged 17 years  aboard the Tay off the coast of South Africa, On the death certificate she is the D/O Mitchell Patison and Mother unknown. interesting given her mother Helen Patison was also onboard the Tay. Baptisim record is for Ellen Mitchell Patison, daughter of Mitschell Patison and Eleanora Mitchell Wilson being
baptised on 25 Mar 1838 at St Cuthberts parish, Edinburgh.

2. George is Baptised Jul 3 1839, St Cuthberts Edinburgh, Mothers full name is recorded at Eleanora Mitchell Patison. George marries Elizabeth McGuiness, dies Victoria 1898.

3. David Wilson Patison is Baptised 19 Nov 1840 at St Cuthberts Edinburgh, marries Euphemia McGillivray 23 Oct 1873 in Peterborough VIC and Dies 1912 in Drouin VIC

4. Mary Brown is Baptised Jul 5 1843 at St Cuthberts, Marries James Mitchell Aug 22 1867 in Woodford Vic, and dies 1901 in Warracknabeal Vic.

The info. on any death cert. is from the 'Informant' i.e. may not have known the correct details.

This looks like one of the census transcriptions, and it looks to me as if it includes more than one household. There's a much more accurate transcription at http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl which does not include the Gifford family in the Patison household, but which (unlike the transcription you have quoted) does include all the information in the original document.

You need to take a look at the original census at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to make sure that the transcriptions are accurate.

Note that in 1841 adults' ages were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 5 years, and that the original census never lists a year of birth. The 1841 census was taken on the night of 6/7 June. Assuming his listed age is accurate, he was born between 7 June 1796 and 6 June 1801.

Calculating someone's year of birth by subtracting their age from the year of the UK census produces a wrong answer at least three times out of four, and in 1841 it produces the wrong answer nine times out of ten because of the rounding down of ages.

Just double checking a couple of things, I'm prone to typo's - especially with a 2 year old running around :-)

Yes date of first marriage should be 1820, and I copied the census info from an old email sent to me, your additional info here has me wondering if I have the right family as my direct ancestor David Wilson Patison was born 19 Nov 1840 (as per family search) but he is not present on the 1841 census and neither is his older sister Helen / Ellen.

I have just checked David's death cert. it notes the following:

Died 18 March 1912, Farmer, Male 70 yrs (which makes birth year c 1842), Cause of death was Cerebral Haemorrhage / Coma 2 1/2 years, Father Mitchell Patison, Lawyer, Helen Patison formerly Wilson, born Edinburgh Scotland and 58 years .Victoria (making immigration c 1584), Married Euphemia McGillivray at Port Campbell VIC 30 years.

David and Euphemias Marriage cert states (23rd of October 1873):

David Wilson Patison, Bachelor of Edinburgh, Edinburghshire, Farmer, aged 31 (also makes birth year c 1842), living Cororrock, son of Mitchell Patison Barrister and Helen Wilson to Euphemia McGillivray, Spinster, born Melbourne, living with parents at Peterborough, Daughter of Archibald McGillivray, Farmer and Jessie McDonald.

All other info I have for Mitchell comes from other shared trees, hmm, I'm stuck.

Did a speculative search for the name Mitchell Pattison in the newspaper archive and found this:

Caledonian Mercury 7 Dec 1826

Notice to the creditors of Mr Mitchell Pattison  SSC

Mr Pattison having  executed a Trust Deed in favour of Mr Thomas Scott ,accountant in  Edinburgh, all those having claims against his estate are requested to lodge the same and oaths of verity thereon, with his trustee without delay. 94 George Street 2 Dec1826.

The same notice appears in The Scotsman 9 Dec 1826.

It would also  be worth doing a search for Mitchell Patison. This produced 64 "hits".This one caught  my eye
