His records says he was discharged by purchase a week later on the 18th August 1896.

my great uncle george frederick lee joined the 3rd battalion north warwickshire  reg on 11th aug 1896

He was joining the Militia - six years part time, 7 weeks training on enlistment, followed by annual camps of 1-2 months. If there was a general mobilization in the six years he would have been 'embodied' - made full time.

All service was paid the same as Regular soldiers. He illustrates the value of the Militia. Purchasing his discharge would have been £2, compared to £20 for a Regular. So it was wise to see if he would take to life as a soldier.

He may have re-joined the army later, either for the Boer War (1899 to 1902) or WW1. If you can find his records for subsequent service it should mention his service as a Militiaman. NOTE..he would have been given a different number if he did re-join

Do you know where he was living around WW1.

Neither George Lee on the AV list lived in Ladywood in 1918.
George the son may have served from 1917 but it's unlikely George the father did unless he was a Territorial & embodied in 1914 which doesn't seem the case.
Also if George the son served he wouldn't have been on the 1918 AV list as he wasn't 21.
