Pentonville Prison Records
« on: Wednesday 09 November 16 17:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for Prison records for 1940-1962 trying to find someone that was emigrated from the USA back to the UK and he died in 1962.

Is there anyway of accessing these records - I know the Kew has some of them but not sure exactly what I am looking for.
Nolan, Cremins & O'Connor - County Kerry, Ireland.
Keogh - Queen's County (Laois)
Stack - Limerick & Clare

These records well may be covered by the hundred year rule, might be best if you call Kew and check, you have to prove you are a close family member to access them

Thanks Jolee - I dont think I would fit the close family criteria - I believe he would have been my grandfathers cousin. :)

Would the 100 year rule still stand even though he is deceased?

I think so, I had to prove I was a direct relative to get access to my g/grandmothers asylum records and she died in 1919, it's something to do with living relatives, have you tried to find a direct relative of his who may be willing to help

Criminal records are quite different to medical and asylum records.

I can't speak for actual prison records, but I have accessed criminal records for an attempted murder in the 1970s, the records, including police photographs, were released after 15 years.

I should add, I am not a relative, just a family friend who wanted the facts rather than exaggerated newspaper accounts. The records were available to anybody.

I found them at Kew.

Go on the website, in the Discovery search box, put in the surname followed by a comma, then the forenames. You may, or may not find what you want, but it is worth a try, so good luck.
