Charles Atkinson circa 1828-1875
« on: Sunday 13 November 16 14:14 GMT (UK) »
I'd be grateful for help in finding  anything about Charles Atkinson before his marriage in 1852.

This is what I have -

Sept 2 1852 - mariage to Eleanor Robinson Forster - St Peter's , Dublin. Father - Robert Atkinson

Late 1850s - 1860s  Medical Officer/Physician, etc. Toomebridge(info from children's birth reg and notices in Belfast News)

1875 - death Belfast - aged 47. Q 1 Vol 1 page 302

His death reg suggests a birthdate of about 1828, His daughter's marriage announcement says he was 'late of Dublin'.

I've tried most of the general and Irish online sources, newspapers and Trinity College alumni records (he must have qualified somewhere)

He was my niece's gggrandfather.

Thanks for any info.

 :D

Thanks ever so much - just up the road from me then!  Do you know what part of Northumberland or shall I get hunting here  ;)

Bit confused by the last part of the info - was Charles's father, Robert or Joseph. His marriage entry has his father as Robert.

John Forster, his F in L,  died 1867, aged 73   - I have some of this line.  He was the tenant/occupier of New Park, Kilkenny.

Not sure about the Forster family. The Forster family seem to have placed an announcement in the newspaper  :-\

Also, as I said in last post, John Forster was of New Park, Kilkenny - death entry has him as Lieutenant of the South Militia!

The entry in the Belfast News of 1852 reads:

Sept 2, by the Rev Mr Macsorley, Charles Atkinson, Esq., of Upper Baggot Street, Dublin, to Eleanor Robinson, Eldest daughter of J Forster, Esq., of New Park, Kilkenny

The marriage entry shows the event at St Peter, Dublin. Fathers - Robert Atkinson and John Forster.

This is the one in Co Durham that I saw earlier in the week and could not really see a link.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3BB-7VC

It was a bit late for Cromwell though  ;D - so am confused.

I note that your link suggests that Northumberland and Durham were more or less the same place - assume she meant that they were both in the Durham diocese.

The details mentioned in reply #2 and 3 found online seem to be a jumbled mix of Atkinsons  :-\

There was a Joseph & Sarah Atkinson whose son Charles Robert was baptised 1826-

However, Charles' married clearly shows his father as Robert.
