Dermoda/Meara (or Nevin) marriage pre-1909?
« on: Tuesday 15 November 16 11:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My Great Aunt Mary Nevin emigrated to America from Tipperary, Ireland in 1909. She stated she was going to visit her "aunt Mrs. Dermoda" in New York.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JXYX-XM7

Now, Mary's father's lines were Nevins, and her mother's line were Mearas. Can anyone find me a marriage between a Mr. Dermoda and a Miss Meara / Miss Nevin in American pre 1909 please? If Meara, then the woman would be likely to originate from Toomevara. If Nevin, then Portumna in Galway.

 Huge thanks in advance, people!!

Thanks! My Mary was born 1st Oct 1888. It looks like this migration record isn't hers after all, as she married a John Fitzgerald in November 1917 at Manhattan.

Looks like I'm still short of her migration record, then. Darn! Thanks for clarifying, though...

William McGuiness and Mary Nevin arrived at the same time - record of aliens held for special inquiry shows them both together

This appears to be her and her family on the 1930 census - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X426-YY2  They are at the same address mentioned on the death certificate.

There is a Social Security application for Geraldine Fitzgerald born 26 May 1921 in New York, NY and died 15 Mar. 1997.  Her parents' names are listed as John Fitzgerald and Mary Boyle, but that is a transcription, so it could be off for that reason or because she didn't know her mother's maiden name.  The Social Security death index says her residence as Bronx, New York.

The Social Security death index has an entry for Audrey Heyward, born 26 May 1921, so fits that they appear to be twins.  Her Social Security number was issued in New York before 1951.  Her last residence was Stoneham, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.  She died 28 Nov. 1982 in Medford, Massachusetts per the Massachusetts death index.
