In 1891, Lucy was in Thorne, Yorkshire - transcribed as Chater.

The marriage to William Lane was also registered in Thorne.

1939 - 7 Station Terrace, Cotherston, Barnard Castle .

Just writing them up before posting back. Thanks, I found the '39 entry together with her Probate and Death records last night but I was still looking for her in 1891.

Lucy died 15/10/1948 and her Executrix was "Mary Louisa Chafer spinster" - at least that confirms the Chafer connection but the next task is to find who "Mary Louisa" was.

Thanks everyone for your help - Rootschat triumphs yet again!

This is the person (I think) Martha not Mary - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW2S-LMK

Martha (14) was with Lucy and her parents in 1901 census.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Some additional notes:-

On 24th June 1909 Martha left Liverpool of the 'Luciana' for the USA.

In 1939, she was living with Minnie Chafer, the daughter of William and Emma Chafer. Minnie's parents are presumably William Chafer, son of Thomas, and Emma Cawkwell, who married in Wroot in 1875.

Thomas would seem to be the son of Isaac and Leah, baptised in Epworth in 1821. William, father of Lucy, also seems to be the son of Isaac and Leah. There is a marriage of an Isaac to Leah Scowthorn in Beckingham, Nottinghamshire in 1815.

Hi David - yes my transcription error.

Hi Geoff - I have her on the 1901, as you say, I just haven't got round to working through that branch of the family yet.

As far as I can tell, Isaac and Leah Scowthorne had 4 children Jane (who I've yet to look at), William (who's family were looking at here), Thomas (who, again,I've yet to look at) and George (who's line is  my main interest). I expect there will be more than 4 - most of the Chafers seem to have managed at least double that!
