Is STK 'shorthand' for STOCK ... when it has a similar meaning to say 'generic'  so perhaps STK may be a database.

If so, perhaps it came about back in the DOS days. 

If you can find 'STK' being used in that sense, perhaps it may turn out to go back to the tickler index card catalogue systems from pre-puter days.  Those cards were known as 'stock' cards, as they were good for 'stock control' in warehousing etc.

Please see replies 3 & 4 where I answered the query quite a while before these last posts  ::)

STK was a PERSON- sometimes it's hard to beat local knowledge  ;)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
