I guess during this time it was pretty common to move out of the rural areas into the more industrial ones in order to find work.
I'm pretty sure the canal system would of easily accommodated this movement  :)
Just a shame I still can't find even an inkling of a baptism record for him

Just a note about Dawley re Dawley Magna baptism above - earlier you mentioned an area called the Bank - there is an area called Dawley Bank could this be more than a coincidence.

A good find!
I think his death index does give his date of birth as 1811.
I was wondering what Bank could mean, to the locals putting down bank as a residence might have made sense back then due to Dawley Bank
