Henry FAWKES, born 1829, possibly at Harmers Stream, Kings Stanley
« on: Wednesday 23 November 16 13:51 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Henry FAWKES, aged 10, and John BRINKWORTH, aged 9, were each sentenced as co-defendants to 6 months imprisonment on 02/07/1839 at the Gloucester County Trinity Sessions.....this was spent at Parkhurst Prison and they were both released on 02/01/1840.

Henry FAWKES is a complete mystery, other than the facts above, except records appear to confirm he did not re-offend.   I can find no reference to any BDM or Census details.   It may be my inadequate fossicking skills, probably 8), but if anyone can help with some details of his life I would be delighted and most grateful.

According to the Gloucestershire Baptism Index the only Henry Fawkes who fits was baptised 23 September 1827 at Stroud St Lawrence. He was the illegitimate son of Ann Fawkes, abode given as Bisley which is the other side of Stroud to Kings Stanley.

Thank you Emelton,

A reasonable start I think to begin looking beyond Gloucester........he may never have gone back after discharge from Parkhurst Prison.

On the Gloucestershire Genealogical Database - the surname FAWKES around the area is also spelt FAULKES.

From the Non-conformist Register for Gloucestershire which I down-loaded from the Gloucestershire Family History Society website  - There is a non-conformist baptism listed for Rodborough Tabernacle

Henry FAULKES 2 May 1830 (date of birth: 23 December 1829)  -
Parents: Thomas (Grocer) & Maria - (maiden name CLARKE)
abode: Bowbridge, Stroud

siblings

George FAULKES - 2 April 1826 (date of birth: 23 January 1826)
Parents: Thomas (Clothworker) and Maria (maiden name CLARKE)
abode: Rodborough, Michinhampton

Elizabeth FAULKES - 4 May 1828 (date of birth: 18 December 1827)
Parents: Thomas (Shopkeeper)  and Maria (maiden name CLARKE)

Maria FAULKES - 13 February 1834 (date of birth: 19 October 1833)
Parents: Thomas (Grocer) and Maria (maiden name CLARKE)
Abode: Bowbridge, Stroud

?  Henry may appear as FAULKES - or even taken his mother's maiden name
? There is a death of a Henry FAULKES aged 19 Stroud in 1850

Also there are some BRINKWORTH's listed on the Non-conformist Register

Gloucestershire Genealogical Database Goal records

Henry FAWKES - age 10 of Kings Stanley: 20 June 1839

Capetown,

This information certainly produces a worthwhile prospect.......Bowbridge is also closer to Harmers Stream than Bisley.....I shall try FAULKES and see where it takes me.

I have managed to complete a profile for John BRINKWORTH.   He went to Lambeth in Surrey, married and had children.  The only slight problem being, after his wife's death in 1879, his last appearance is in the 1881 Census and then he disappears.
