SURTEES of Mickley/Prudhoe
« on: Wednesday 30 November 16 19:53 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to locate the baptism of my GGrandfather Jonathan John SURTEES born in 1861 (Dec qtr) - probably baptised at Mickley but could equally have been baptised at Prudhoe or even Ovington. I also would like to find my Grandmother's baptism - Annie Maud SURTEES, born 28 Jan 1896 probably Prudhoe, possibly Mickley. I have censuses. Any help gratefully received and would be happy to assist researchers seeking information in Devon. Thank you.

Mickley and Prudhoe are both in the parish of Ovingham so that's where you should be looking.  Unfortunately the records on freereg are not recent enough to show these two baptisms but the Surtees surname does appear.

I won't be back at Woodhorn for a couple of weeks but would be happy to look if you don't get an answer by then.

I'm assisting a friend researching her SURTEES family, with recent posts on RC.  Definitely the Ovingham area too.  We are still currently earlier than 1861 and haven't come across your names.

Regards

bitzar.

Thank you C-side - much appreciated. bitzar - I have a fairly detailed compilation of SURTEES families beyond my own - it's the more modern details I lack! I would be happy to help you with records pre-1850s.

I checked out Ovingham PRs today but failed to find either John or Annie Maud - I looked for two years after the birth registration/birth date.

Before I think about checking neighbouring parishes, is there any chance that they might have been non-conformists?

Out of curiosity, why do you need their baptisms when you have their birth records?

Thank you so much for checking Christine - very much appreciated. There is the possibility they were baptised non-conformist but all previous and subsequent baptisms in the family were C of E. (Although my own father wasn't baptised at all until he went in to the army. His siblings were C of E.)
I wanted their baptisms to complete my records - but of course I can make do with their birth certs.
Merry Christmas to you!
