Just an observation. Mary would be too young to have a child aged 17 when she's only listed as 28 in 1844 & there's a largish gap between Joseph & Emma.
Is her age on the US census consistent with a C.1816 birth ?
Quote
why do they marry again in America......
Could Mary Woodroffe have died & he's taken up with another Mary marrying later in the USA ?
Is Woodroffe her name on the USA marriage ?
Emma & William could be his illegitimate children or Mary's from a previous marriage/relationship or a bit of both.
Do you have an exact date for the 1844 passenger list ?

Looks like the same Mary & her age on the manifest is wrong.
Maybe they married again because they wanted proof of marriage if they didn't bring a marriage cert. from the UK.
Although some ages are out & there's no George it looks like the same family.
I'm not sure you'll ever find proof.
Are they this family in Michigan 1870:

Thomas Newman    M 63 England
Mary Newman    F 62 England
William Newman   M 23 New York
Catharine Newman    F 22 Ireland

I think I may have found George and Emma's birth?

George born in Polesworth in 1834 and Emma -----it says ASTON JUXTA 1836
but this could be a mistranscription for Norton Juxta (hopefully :) maybe :) )
Still NO Joseph and NO 1841..

Yes think that is the correct family  Jim. xx :)

So its all guesstimate... I know on other branches that have taken up citizenship in USA they have given more detail regarding parentage and birth.... so maybe if I could find that

Just wish I could find the 1841... of course they could have been waiting in the Port for a passage and not ben accounted for...

Thanks everyone for help --

:)

Aston Juxta seems to be correct but whether it's the same Thomas & Mary I couldn't say.
This is the only Baptism to a Thomas & Mary Newman in B'ham.
St. Peter's & St. Paul's Aston 14/8/1836:
You need to see another Baptism with father's occupation.
You could email the Warks. RO & ask them to look at George as you have a date & place:
