irregular marriages at Lamberton toll
« on: Thursday 22 December 16 20:48 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to these records. I have a Mary Wylie marrying John Ritchie  both of Berwick on 28 May, 1845. Wondering if the record would say if Mary was a widow. Thanks Retire

I have sent message to someone who might be able to help, but not sure if any information will be available. This can be a difficult subject.

As I suspected, this is the answer I got back.

"Hi, sorry I cannot find either of these names in my record book"

Even if the record was there it probably wouldn't give any detailed information besides the individuals names and the date they were married. An image of an Irregular Border Marriage certificate can be seen here;

Some of my relatives got married at Lamberton, and luckily for me one or two of the records survived, but many didn't. When I follow family trails and end up at the Border my heart sinks. Hehe.

I found it in one of my books. One of the witnesses was an Alexander Wylie, the other Jane Steely.

I don't think so.  I purchased the 2 books with border marriages and in general these were from the newspapers.  The surnames are indexed in the last few pages of the books along with a entry number.
