An annoying brickwall. Jane Corri
« on: Tuesday 27 December 16 10:59 GMT (UK) »
10 years or more now. I've put her up before on the forum. Start in London because that is where she married Thomas Clay 1858. I have the marriage certificate and the banns are now on line. Father Joseph Corri, Baker. deceased. Whether the spelling Corri is correct is questionable. By censuses she was born in Wales. Every search I do comes up blank. The latest find is 1841 census Joseph Coreh, journeyman baker. Westminster London. Can anyone help ?

Hi Roy

for the benefit of others can you post the 1841 census details in more detail as we all use different suppliers and transcriptions vary?

Does it give an age for her on the marriage certificate?

The mother of the Joseph Corah born 1839 (1841 census) was Mary Woodward.

Your Jane seems pretty definite that she was born in Wales, so may not be the Middlesex family.

Yes I know. She should be found in 1841 and 51 censuses in either London or Wales. Was she in service in London? or did the family move from Wales?  Plenty of questions but no answers. Obviously not listed as Corri.  I have tried Corrie, Currie, Cory, Corey and more.

She also says her father was deceased by her marriage in 1858, but unless he died before registrations in 1837, there are no Joseph Corri deaths between 1837 and 1858. It's always possible that she was illegitimate and made up his name for respectability.
