Top Jop or Sop Hills Wainfleet All Saints
« on: Thursday 05 January 17 01:40 GMT (UK) »
I've found a family living in Top Hills, Wainfleet all Saints on the 1841 census image. In 1851 it looks like Jop Hills on the image and has been transcribed that way (looks like Jop all the way down the page and not like the "T"s elsewhere on the page. In 1851 it's been transcribed as Sop, and could be an S or a T.
I live on the other side of the world so have no idea which is correct. Could anyone please tell me which is correct? I imagine it's Top.
The family were TIPNEY in 1841, TIPENEY in 1851, and TIPANY in 1861. I was only interested because the wife, Susannah was present at the death of Bartholomew MARKWELL, son of Bartholomew MARKWELL and Sarah JEFFERY (multiple spellings).
Thanks in advance.

I wonder if it could be Chop Hills as soon on this 1905 map http://maps.nls.uk/view/114650934#zoom=3&lat=4607&lon=7949&layers=BT

And an earlier 1888 map http://maps.nls.uk/view/101589884#zoom=4&lat=2083&lon=6280&layers=BT

Kay

Added - Maybe it is all in the pronunciation - In 1881 shown as Jopp Hills but in 1901 listed as Chopp Hills and in 1891 as Chop Hill
