« on: Friday 06 January 17 15:10 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the family of Jane Davis born circa 1812in or around Hatherop .She married my Great Great Grandfather George Godwin 4/5/1833 at Hatherop. In 1841 they lived at Fulbrook(Taynton)Oxfordshire. They had 6 children. She died in 1849 a short time after the birth of their 6th child and is buried in Astall churchyard. I have no records of her family and where they actually lived. Any info gratefully received

Thank you everyone for your replies. Joseph Godwin son of George and Jane Godwin born 1833 was my Great Grandfather and I think was named after George's father Joseph Godwin who married Joyce Eeles in 1805. I have many problems with the different spellings of Godwin ie Goodwin,Godding Godden and more. Joseph was born in Netherton Cottages which are between Hatherop and Quenington. They are still there now but as one  house which recently was sold for a very large sum. Seems strange that all those years ago they were just a row of humble cottages. Much later Georges two daughters both widowed returned to live there for their last years.Regarding Jane and the "Date of committal"what exactly does that mean?It sounds like a buriel but it can't have been my Jane as she died in 1849 and was buried in Astall churchyard Oxfordshire.

Jane Davis aged 17 in 1828 - this is a Gaol record which can be ordered from the Gloucestershire Records Office.

http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/genealogy/Search.aspx

Jane committed a crime...

Ancestry does have Gloucestershire Gaol records which would show what she was guilty of and whether she was found guilty.
