India - Death - RR Thurston

Evening, I am looking for the death of my Great Great Grandfather, Robert Rump THURSTON. I have his birth cert 1852 (London) and his marriage to Eva Georgina in 1879 (India) but cannot locate his death any where. (Find my past/Ancestry/FIBIS/Family search)
Eva died in 1897 in Calcutta, her death was recorded in the Times of India " at 6 Old Conductors Quarters, Hastings, Calcutta.  Eva Georgina, wife of RR Thurston & Daughter of Mrs S Leach"
Was Robert still alive then???
My Family remained in India until 1949 so I suspect this is where Robert died.
Any help or advice appreciated

If he had died before Eva, she would have been noted as "the relict of" or "the widow of".

That was my thinking too. I cannot locate him anywhere😓

Was her mother still alive at that time? Seems odd that it doesn't say daughter or Mr and Mrs XX Leach if she had died. I think that RR was still alive then from the wording as well.

Just checked, his Mother in Law died 21/11/1901 age 76.  Hence why the death notice is written as such.

So I think that does point to the fact that her husband didn't die before her, so you are looking for a death after 1897.

I agree, Ive searched on just his first name (Rob***) and just the surname for 1897 +/- 20 years and found nothing.

I'm pretty sure  there are some threads here on Rootschat about Thurstons in India if you try a search.

I think it's suffolksue who is related but that is just off the top of my head. I have links to the Leaches back in England but don't know anything about the India branch
