Alice and Henry Haines.
« on: Friday 06 January 17 23:01 GMT (UK) »
In my tree I have Elizabeth Haines born C1836 Hartpury and died 1896 Gloucestershire.Elizabeth never married but she had 3 children. One of them Frederick John Haines born 22/7/1858.I have his two marriage certificates stating his father was William Dent farmer(A married man with a family).I could not find him in 1861(his mother Eliza is living in Somerset or at least I think its her) but I know from his baptism his mother is Elizabeth and in 1871 he is living with his mothers brother Charles.

The other two are the ones I am having a problem Alice born 1862 Maisemore and Henry born 1866 Maisemore.

Alice and Henry(Harry) were living with their mother at Maisemore in 1871.

in 1881 and 1891 Harry was with his mother and a widowed Charles Etheridge in Maisemore.

No sign of Harry(Henry) after that.

Alice in 1881 was an inmate at Magdalen Home in Gloucester.

No sign of Alice after that.Although I see a marriage in 1883 Gloucester 6a 535 but there are only 3 names under that date Alice Haines Arthur Greenway and Sarah Ann Watts. So did Alice marry Arthur Greenway or did she marry the second male not named.

I had these Birth registers Alice Haines March qtr 1862 Gloucester 6a 248.
Henry Haines Dec qtr 1866 Gloucester 6a 247.

The trouble is when I look them births up on the GRO index Alice birth says mothers maiden name Dugard and Henry's mothers maiden name Barnard.Well Elizabeth Haines was their mother and her parents were Charles Haines and Hannah Walker.

So you can now see I am confused ???  ???  ???.

It was okay until I found them on GRO.I have never tried to find what happened to them both before I wonder where Alice went after 1881 and Henry or Harry after 1891.

That birth refers to the 1871 entry for Alice Haines daughter of Herbert & Rosina (nee Dugard)

Edit

There is an 1858 marriage in Stroud with Anne Penelope Barnard and Richard Haines on the same page

Quite possibly the births of your Alice & Henry were not registered

SNAP CAROLE !!!

The birth you have found for Alice looks to be the wrong one, ~ there were two Alice's born in 1862.

Herbert HAINES married Rosina DUGARD 16 Jan 1851 St Pancras, London. Daughter Alice was baptized 1862 in Gloucester, St Mary de Lode.

James DANCY bach 41 widower , chemist of 22 St James Street. Father: Joseph Humphry Dancy ~ farmer
ALICE HAINES spin, 21 of 22 St James Street.

In the space for her father the name CHARLES ETHERIDGE has been crossed out, he was a carpenter

Both signed register

Thank You Carole and Claire.

At least I have some answers now haven't worked on this side of my tree for years until a couple of days ago.

I saw the two births in 1862 and thought they had printed it twice because they couldn't read the numbers properly.

Henry was still alive in 1891.

That does look like Alice with the father Charles Ethridge because her mother was living with Charles i 1881 and 1891

There is actually only one 1862 entry on the GRO index - page number was 248 and is very clear so I don't know why there were 2 freebmd entries with 245 as a possible page number
