Marriage of David Carey and Emma
« on: Friday 13 January 17 18:12 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find when the Marrige took place between David Carey and his wife Emma and if possible Emma's maiden name.

David John Carey was born in 1848 in St Pancras, in the 1851 census he is with his parents Peter and Mary and siblings Ho 107 piece no 1495 Folio 259 page 9. In the 1861 census he his with his older brother Daniel at an industrial school RG09 piece no 108 Folio no 13 page 29. I cannot find him in the 1871 census. In the 1881 census he is with his wife Emma and their children the oldest is David who is 9 years old RG11 piece no 319 folio 10 page 13 from this I assume they were married late 1860's or early 1870's. David died in 1899, in the 1911 census Emma writes 40 in the column for how many years she has been married but there is a line through it so this means the marriage took place in 1871.

If anyone can provide me with more information on David and Emma I would be most grateful.

From the gro index (www.gro.gov.uk - free to search but you need to register)

Walter Carey
JAn/Feb/Mar 1880
Pancras
01B 51
Mothers maiden name: DUFFIN

That might help. He was the youngest child there with David and Emma in 1881.
So Emma was, most probably, nee Duffin
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

INteresting entry in the St Pancras workhouse registers

Emily or Emma Duffin , or  Carey
Birth  1851
Admission and discharge 14 July 1920  [Ancestry have got the date wrong on one entry and have 25 Sep 1920]
Occupation: traveller
Discharged to St Pancras Hospital

The name Emily Duffin is recorded on the chronological admission registers, but the alphabetical one has the alternate names. I can only imagine this came out during some kind of examination of her case/claim
