I think I may have unravelled what happened to Caroline Johnson , senior, and her daughter. Unfortunately it involves the 1911 census of which we cannot give details here. I couldn't find Caroline , born abt 1835 in Grays , anywhere after 1861 until 1911 where she is living with a married daughter. The married daughter is the key( the name has been transcribed incorrectly on Ancestry ).
Here's a link to the free index :
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWGK-HZVThat being said, the following records may be of interest :
Mary Ann HOSIER 21 spinster , short ironer, 36 Essex Street Hoxton , father John Hosier sealskin dresser
James Frederick STYGALLS 24 bach carman father James Frederick Stygalls horse keeper
married 21 May 1888 St Thomas Bethnal Green
one of the witnesses Joseph George Johnson
1871 census :
John Hosier 44 skin dresser
Caroline Hosier 35 ( claims born France )
John Hosier 16 skin dresser
Caroline Hosier 15 b Sydenham
Joseph Hosier 10
Mary Ann Hosier 4
Henry Hosier 9 months
address 13 Dorset Road , Islington
In 1881 & 1891 Caroline senior states born Holloway or Islington, not France. There are late baptisms for Henry/Harry and Mary Ann Hosier but I cannot find a marriage for John Hosier to Caroline.
In addition there is a user correction on the 1891 census
John Hosier 64
Caroline Hosier 54
Mary Hosier 75 - this should read 15.
at Henshall Street , Islington
User comments : Mary Hosier is Grand daughter of Caroline and is really Mary Ann Pennell. There is no explanation of this comment.
Very sorry if this all sounds a bit incoherent. Hope you can see your way through it ! If you start with 1911 it may make sense.
